Czech in check

The Bears scored their third league win in a row, after Dornbirn and Graz, new celebration in Znojmo

Znojmo, a small town in southern Moravia, was a lucky destination for Medveščak on most occasions so far. Out of 6 duels in Ice Hall - Nevoga Arena, The Bears won five. Zagreb team achieved their sixth road win in Znojmo, in the sixth round of EBEL league – 3:2 after overtime.

Before the duel, the Medveščak's coach Connor Cameron stressed out that his team is about to play a tough game, and he was absolutely right. The Czech team outdid The Bears in shots on goal (38:18), but thanks to excellent MacIntyre (36 saves, 94.7%), the guests managed to withstand attacks of the home team.

Medveščak made the lead in 12th minute with a goal by Koskiranta, but only a minute later Yellow Horn scores scored equalizer for Znojmo. The hosts had advantage in shots on goal (16:7), but the players went on the first break with 1:1.

In the second period teams scored one goal each, again. Tomaš Netik scored his third goal in two games, bringing the guests to the lead in 27th minute. The Bears held their advantage for five minutes, but Mrazek in 32nd minute brought everything back to tie. After 40 minutes the result was 2:2.

The hosts made pressure in the last period. The scores on goal ratio was much on their side (12:3), but the Medveščak's defense, lead by MacIntyre, managed to withstand all the Czech attacks and the score remained the same until the end of the game. This meant that Medveščak is about to play overtime, for the second time in a row in away games.

And just like in Dornbirn a week ago, The Bears celebrated again, and to make things more interesting the shooter was Boivin again, the player who could be considered an overtime specialist. In the second minute into the overtime he took advantage of the Sondre Olden assistance in the best possible way, and brought two points to Medveščak from this duel.

This was the Bears' third win in a row that raised them to the 8th place of the league standings, with 8 points.

Medveščak plays their next game on October 1st, away vs. Red Bull Salzburg.
