Medveščak joined Central European league EBEL in 2009.
HKL Medveščak played their first game in EBEL, also their first home game, on September 11th 2009 with their old rivals Jesenice. In front of 5.500 spectators that filled the Ice Hall of Dom Sportova, the Bears, lead by their captain Alan Letang, succeeded to win after overtime. The first goal in EBEL for Medveščak was scored by Andy Sertich (in a shorthanded situation), and on the same occasions Joel Prpich and Luka Žagar made the first assists.
Their first game away in EBEL The Bears played in Linz vs. LIWEST Black Wings, when they also recorded their first win away, but only after penalty shootout.
From 2013 to 2017 Medveščak played in KHL Russian league, and returned back to EBEL in the autumn of 2017.
With the tonight's first goal to Vienna Capitals net, the Czech Tomaš Netik scored the 800th goal for The Bears in EBEL league.
