The Bears celebrate in Dornbirn

The Bears beat Dornbirn away in their first win of the season

From the fourth attempt the Medveščak players achieved their first win of the season. After three consecutive defeats, The Bears beat Dornbirn away 4:3 after overtime, and won 2 points that hopped them up from the last place of the standings.

»We waited for this for so long, and we wanted to end this mini-tour of away games with a win. We are obviously moving to the right direction and it is very nice that we won this evening«, said Medveščak's coach Connor Cameron after the game.

The beginning was as good as it could possibly be. For the first time this season the Zagreb players scored the first lead, in the 4th minute, when Tyler Morley scored in a shorthanded situation. But the Medveščak's lead didn't last.

In the 6th minute Macierzynski answered and put things back at the beginning. But this goal did not discourage the guests, who scored for the lead again in the 18th minute. After a combination of Zanški and Brine, Pöyhönen beat Quemener and Medveščak went to the first break with one goal advance.

Right at the beginning of the second period, in the 30th second already, the hosts took advantage of the powerplay situation and made the 2:2 through Connelly. In spite of chances on both sides, there were no more goals in the second period.

The last period brought two more goals. First Donbrin reversed the score in 53rd minute into the game with the second goal by Connelly, but two and a half minutes later Koskiranta equalized to 3:3 and set the final score of the regular time.

The game was decided in overtime, in the 3rd minute. The Bears took advantage of their first powerplay situation, Michael Boivin scored his second goal of the season and brought success, and Medveščak continued their series of wins against Donbrin's 'Bulldogs'.

»It is always nice to win away. We are still getting used to each other and to the new play style, but things are getting better. We shall see what is the season going be like. Our goal is to reach playoffs in the regular part of the season, and then we could go far. It all depends on us, our hard work and our adoption of the coach's demands«, Boivin said after the game.

This was the fifth duel of Medveščak and Dornbirn, and the fifth win of the Zagreb team. They played in Voralberg three times so far, and won every time, twice in overtime; and what is interesting is that they scored exactly 4 goals on each of the 3 occasions.

Let us remember that for the first time into this season young Croatian goalkeeper Vilim Rosandić got his chance to play, replacing Gašper Krošelj who was injured in the first period of the game, and he used this opportunity very well, saving several serious attempts from the host players.

The Bears play their next game at The Ice Hall of Dom sportova on Friday, September 22nd, and the guests are Graz 99-ers. The game starts at 19:15.
