Again this year, for the seventh time in the row, Medveščak joins the global campaign Earth Hour, in order to point out the problems important for all the planet Earth inhabitants, and its protection.
At exactly 8.30 p.m. on Saturday, March 24th, Medveščak will, in support to this valuable global campaign, switch off their website www.medvescak.com, and cease all activities on the official club profiles on social networks Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. At the same time, millions of people all around the world will switch off the lights in their houses, flats, offices, businesses, to show that they care about the planet and future generations.
The Earth Hour campaign is happening for 11 years now, and the changes that it achieved since it was started are first of all visible in the rise of public awareness about care for environment and nature protection importance.
As global biodiversity declines at an unprecedented rate, Earth Hour will focus its efforts on galvanizing mainstream support for action on biodiversity and nature.
In the past decade, through Earth Hour WWF helped to move discussions about climate change from conference rooms to our living rooms. Now is the time to do the same with biodiversity, that all of us depend on.
With the slogan 'Connect2Earth', this years' Earth Hour points to the most relevant problems in environmental protection. The Columbians will call for their government to commit to zero deforestation by 2020. French Polynesia is expected to start to protect 5 million square kilometers of its seas, while in India people will pledge to shift toward sustainable lifestyles. In our region, WWF will through Earth Hour campaign point to the interconnection between biodiversity and climate change. They add slogan 'Connect2Rivers' to 'Connect2Earth', and the whole campaign is focused on protection of freshwater ecosystems and important rivers.
WWF Adria and the Zagreb Bears invite all the individuals and cities to join the Earth Hour campaign and for one more time black out their homes, offices, businesses and historical landmarks.
