Medveščak continues to complete their roster for the next season, when they will continue to compete in Central European EBEL Championship. Defensemen Adam Deutch and Mark Cepon extended their loyalty to the Zagreb team.
„We are excited Adam and Mark are coming back. We are expecting big things from Adam as he was starting to play some top hockey before his injury. He’s healthy and ready to go. We are hoping Mark comes in with a chip on his shoulder and is able to continue his development. He is big and strong and I would like to see him make more of a impact this season.“, sports director Aaron Fox commented the return of two players.
Swedish defenseman Adam Deutch joined the Zagreb Bears in 2014, for their last season in KHL championship. Before Medveščak, he spent his entire career in the Swedish team Brynas IF, where he also briefly returned from Medveščak in 2015/2016 season. He rejoined Medveščak again in autumn 2016, when they returned to Central European EBEL. Last season he played 33 games for Medveščak and scored 8 points, with two goals and six assists.
Together with Swedish, Adam Deutch has Croatian citizenship after his mother!
Just like Deutsch, the Slovenian defenseman with Croatian roots Mark Cepon did not change a lot of clubs in his youth. He started his professional career in Olimpija Ljubljana. After winning the junior EBEL trophy in 2015 with Olimpija, the young defenseman decided to make a change and joined Red Bull Salzburg, where he played for their second team and Salzburg's juniors in the EBYSL league. He arrived to Medveščak last year to play in EBEL, and took part in 59 games with four points. He also played for Medveščak's M2 team and won IntHL Championship, with 9 games and 15 points!
Cepon has a lot of experience with the Slovenian ice hockey national team. In 2013 he became a member of Slovenian U18 national team, and in the year after he already become the team's captain and was awarded the best defensemen of the national team. In 2015 he joined national U20 team.
Both defensemen will join Medveščak's preparations for the new EBEL season, in the second week of August in Zagreb.
