Current Medveščak's EBEL team Head Coach Connor Cameron agreed with the team management to terminate his contract. The break-up followed the Head Coach Cameron's wish to return to Canada because of his family obligations, and a series of recent poor results. Cameron took over the EBEL team in July this year and led them through 5 preparatory games and 30 games of regular EBEL championship, with total ratio of 18 wins and 19 defeats. Cameron joined Medveščak for the first time in KHL season 2016/18, as the First Assistant Coach of then Head Coach Gordy Dwyer. With the club's return to EBEL and with Dwyer parting for Dinamo Minsk, Cameron took over Medveščak's first team.
»The club and Head Coach Connor Cameron have mutually agreed to part ways for the remainder of the season. Connor has family obligations he needs to tend to back in Canada, and with the poor results from our team we are looking to change our team dynamic and bring in a new voice. We wish Connor success in the future«, Medveščak's Sport Director Aaron Fox explained.
American Douglas Bradley, a coach veteran well known to Zagreb fans, will take Cameron's place. Bradley was in Medveščak from 2009 to 2011, when he held several different positions in the club. In 2009/10 season he was Medveščak's Director of Sport Operations, and Sports Director. In the following season he was engaged as a Head Coach Ted Sator's assistant, and then in the middle of the season he became the Head Coach, also after a series of defeats and team's poor position on the league standings. After Medveščak, he worked as a head coach assistant in Wheeling Neilers in ECHL (2013-2015), and then as a head coach of Hungarian DVTK Jegesmedvek, popular Polar Bears. Bradley has a rich EBEL experience, along with Medveščak he was a coach of Slovenian Jesenice and Austrian Innsbruck.
»We have reached an agreement to bring back Doug Bradley to Medveščak. Doug brings a wealth of experience inside the EBEL and has the type of energy and character that we believe will get our players playing better hockey and up to their potential. We still believe we have a roster that can compete for the playoffs and have time to turn our season around«, Fox announced.
Bradley will join the team on December 26th in Villach, and he will then lead Medveščak for the home game against Graz, on December 28th in Zagreb. Before Bradley's arrival and taking over the team, they will be lead by current assistant coaches, Dylan Beston and Carter Beston-Will, who remain with the club.
