»We have agreed to terms to bring back Sondre Olden and Tomas Kudelka for another season. Great start! Congratulations «. This was a text message that Medveščak's sports director Aaron Fox sent to his club colleagues this morning.
Olden and Kudelka are thus the first »old« players who confirmed to continue their collaboration with Medveščak for the next EBEL season (2018/19).
Offensive player Sondre Olden joined Medveščak at the beginning of the just finished season. He arrived to Medveščak from Swedish SHL, where he played for 3 seasons before his arrival to Zagreb, in Leksands, Brynas and MODO Hockey jerseys, with a respectable total of 106 games in the league which is one of Europe's strongest.
Sports director Aaron Fox commented the arrival of the Norwegian attacker in the last season with these words: »Olden had an important role in the best Swedish league... he was the top scorer in Norway... I believe that in EBEL Olden will get back his attacking instinct…«, which Olden proved to be right. In the last season Olden gathered high 65 points, with 31 goal and 34 assists. With this, he was the second best player in Medveščak's roster. In the league ranking Olden was high 4th best players based on goals, and 7th based on total points in 53 games that he played in the EBEL championship in 2017/18 season. Olden's sports career was acknowledged by Medveščak's supporters firm Sektor B, who proclaimed him the best player of EBEL 2017/18 season, and during the season he was voted HOcKey Player of the Game for three consecutive months – in November, December and January.
»Sondre is obviously an extremely talented offensive player who had a great season for us and is one of those guys that we plan to build around. He turned down more money elsewhere to stay in Medveščak, which says a lot about his character. We are obviously very excited to have him back in our Den«, said Aaron Fox, Medveščak's sports director.
"The robust Czech international player", defenseman Tomaš Kudelka, joined the Bears at the same time with Sondre Olden. »The bad boy of the Czech league«, who was in 2005 drafted for NHL by Ottawa Senators, arrived to Zagreb from the Czech team Pirati Chomutova, and in his home country he also played for his native Zlin, Pardubice and Vitkovice. In his career he took part in all age groups of the Czech national team, and also played 11 games for the senior national team. In the last season he played 60 EBEL games for Medveščak, and scored 2 goals with 14 assists.
»Tomáš was a key defenseman for us last year. He played against the other teams' best players every night as a shutdown D-man and brought great character to the dressing room. He does all the little things you need to build a winning culture. Just like us, Tomaš is also excited to be back to Zagreb and help us continue to be a better team and organization«, sports director Fox said.
Both players will join Medveščak's roster on the team gathering in August this year.
