Bears earn a point in game defined by the goalies
Medvescak hosted Torpedo in their last game of the calendar year in the Ice Hall. The defence-heavy game lasted 65 minutes without any goals, until the winning goal came from Torpedo's Immonen in a shootout.
''Going into this game, we knew that the opponent was well organized defensively. Despite the lack of goals, I think that the game was exciting, the energy was good, solid like a playoff game, and they did a good job in front of their goalie so we had no opportunities from rebounds. I think that both teams wanted to control the game by controlling the puck, I was thrilled with how we did defensively'', stated coach Mark French.
The Bears started out with a bang, trying to repeat their last game in which they scored twice in the first two minutes, but the visiting team held off the pressure. In the second period the shots on goal ratio was 14:14, but neither team managed to get past the goalies. In the final period, Medvescak started off with 35 seconds left of their powerplay, but nobody managed to get past Torpedo's tough-as-a-wall defense. Right after that, two of the Bears wound up in the penalty box, leaving the guests playing 5-on-3. Medvescak defended themselves, and impressively at that, allowing Torpedo only one shot at Brust in the first five minutes of the final period. Despite a great game and numerous opportunities for the Bears, there were no goals, and the game went into overtime, followed by a final shootout decision (0:1 Vadim Krasnoslobodtsev).
