On Wednesday KHL Medvescak Zagreb, after an overall successful premiere season in the KHL, attended a reception in the Dverce Palace with Zagreb's mayor Milan Bandic. For the continual support of, and immeasurable belief in Medvescak's team, the club's general director Vladimir Tomicic handed mayor Bandic a framed puck from the Bears' first historic game in the KHL, played in the Ice Hall of Dom Sportova on September 6th 2013 against CSKA and ended in a victorious 7:1.
''When I met with the club's management a few years ago, with Mr. Tomicic and Mr. Gojanovic, we dreamed about activating hockey in Zagreb again, and only a few people believed in it. The incredible results are more than evident today, which I am extremely proud of'', said Zagreb's mayor Milan Bandic.
At the reception for the players and management, the Bears' captain Alan Letang addressed the mayor with words of thanks on behalf of all of the players, while mayor Bandic thanked the team for promoting Zagreb and Croatia as the country's most decorated team has become a true Zagreb brand.
''You've brought hockey back to Zagreb in a big way. Zagreb knows how to value that - your scores are important, but at the same time, and if not more important, the sportsmanlike behaviour of you and your Zagreb audience. That's why this is a win in two ways'', concluded Zagreb's mayor.
