Czech connection for the first win

Reports 28.08.2015.
Czech connection for the first win

The head coach of Admiral started the analysis with the words: “They moved better than us, they were more precise and aggressive, they deserved to win.” Although the whole match doesn’t fit into that description, the Bears looked lightning quick and dominant for periods of time, earning their first victory in the new KHL season.

The start and the end of the game were exactly how head coach Gordie Dwyer wanted them to be:”It’s important getting that first win. We played well against a team that was well prepared, and they played great in their defensive end. We always want to turn the game to our strengths  I like the way we finished today’s game off. The reason why is because everyone respected the system, the way we trained and the way we know how to play.”

Marek Kvapil crowned his great game tonight with the third goal on the scoreboard:”We got rid of the puck a lot quicker than last game. We played a simple game, putting a lot of effort into not making the same mistakes as we did in the first game. It was obvious we played more of a team game than an individual one which lead us to victory.” He didn’t take credit for the victory: “I don’t think I should take the credit, the team won. Smolenak scored a great goal which gave us a boost till the end of the game. I like playing with my linemates because I know them well and we adjust easily to each other.”

The start of the game was very similar to the first game of the season. The Bears came out of the gate strong, ready to battle for each puck, but it wasn’t easy turning the advantage into goals. The team lead by Alexander Andryevsky adjusted to the tempo put on by the Bears a lot quicker than Amur, which lead to a close game with only a few flashes from the home team. The pressure put on by Medveščak was finally used by Radek Smolenak, scoring his first goal of the season.

The start of the second period was memorable, Geoffrey Kinrade scores his first goal for Medveščak in his 41st game, as well as his 13th point, on a solo action.

The most dangerous lead in hockey once again proved its volatility for the Bears. After they’ve lost a 2:0 lead in the first game, in the middle of the 2nd period Alexander Kuznetsov scores his 2nd of the season and cuts the lead in half. Medveščak defended against an Admiral powerplay, which looked like a proper siege, and the big scramble in front of the net an uncontrolled bounce off of Danny Taylor was used by Kuznetsov for the only goal for Admiral in this game.

The title of the best player of the game, as chosen by the fans in the stands ( HOKejaš utakmice) was taken by Radek Smolenak, who opened the scoring in the 20th minute.

The third home game, and the third game of the season will be played on Sunday, 30.08.2015., starting at 5:30 PM at the Ice hall of Dom sportova. Medveščak will play host to Sibir Novosibirsk who won their season opener against Vityaz.
