The regular season is soon coming to an end, and the Bears have just seven games left - three at home and four away - during which they will try and lock in the playoffs. They're currently in 7th place in the Western Conference, but mathematically nothing's certain yet because Lokomotiv are down just nine points (69 points) from Medvescak (78 points), while Atlant Mytishchi are 'five wins' behind (63 points).
''We have to be careful in these remaining games, especially the three home ones, and we also have to be completely focused on our goal. Before Christmas we told ourselves that by the end of January, or by this break for the Winter Olympics, we would have a total of 84 points. I think that would be enough to secure the playoffs. Right now we're six points away from that goal, but in these coming home games we have the opportunity to get nine'', said coach Mark French.
The Bears will cap off January with three home games in Arena Zagreb as part of the Pan Arena Ice Fever. The first opponents, on Thursday (5:30PM), will be Atlant from Mytishchi to whom they lost in overtime in a visit (3:2), followed by Lokomotiv from Yaroslavl on Saturday (5:30PM), and then Severstal from Cherepovets on Monday (7:30PM).
''The game against Atlant will be a game in which we're going to have to fight for points that can be crucial to our placement in the playoffs. We have to expect them to play solidly, especially at the start of the match, so our game will have to be at a high level all 60 minutes.''
