Along with Saarinen, Medvescak has signed another player: 26-year-old defenseman Blake Parlett.
Finn Jesse Saarinen is a new face that will be making the Den and Zagreb his home in the ’15-16 season, along with making the Medvescak and its fans his second family. This is a player who is skilled at playing both left and right wing and has many years of experience in the Finnish Liiga.
''A few seasons ago I made it my goal to play in the KHL. It was just a question of time for when that would happen. And there it is, as of today I’m a KHL-er thanks to Medvescak and I’m a proud Bear. I heard from Jokerit’s players that the fans here are fantastic. I’m eager for the season to start and to feel that vibe that Jokerit’s players talked about'', commented 29-year-old Jesse, who briefly came to Zagreb to sign Medvescak’s contract.
Throughout his 11-year career, Saarinen played in the Finnish Elite League with Pelicans (6 seasons), SaiPa (2 seasons), and HPK (3 seasons), and in ’10-11 he even played six games for Czech Extraliga’s Karlovy Vary.
''I know I have a huge job ahead of me. Everything is going to be unfamiliar and from what I saw at Jokerit’s games in Helsinki last season, I know that there are some tough games ahead of me along with some great hockey which I am extremely happy about along with the wins, new teammates, fans, opponents… All of it'', commented a smiling Jesse, adding:
''How I do and who it will all end we will find out at the end of the season, but there's one thing I'm sure of: that I'll give it my everything because I want to prove that I can play in this league. I'm a fast player who loves to score and I hope that I will grow in Medvescak.''
Blake Parlett joining defence
Along with Saarinen, Medvescak has signed another player: 26-year-old defenseman Blake Parlett. Parlett is coming to the Den with AHL and ECHL experience, and this will be his first-ever season in the Kontinental Hockey League. Of interest to note is that Croatian blood runs through Parlett's veins since his grandmother was born in Croatia.
''Parlett is a very solid defenseman who can hold his own both offensively and defensively. He can play powerplays and penalty kills and we expect him to log some big minutes for our team. On top of that, he also plays with a lot of heart. His grandmother was born in Croatia, which makes him particularly excited to play for our club and to help us improve on last season'', said Medvescak's Sports Director Aaron Fox.
Blake Parlett signed his first pro contract in '10-11 with the AHL's Connecticut Whale and spent three seasons with them. He also played for the Springfield Falcons, Providence Bruins, and San Antonio Rampage in the AHL, as well as the Greenville Road Warriors in the ECHL.
