Tomljenović will be the Bears' third goalie in prep games leading up to the KHL championship.
Brandon Maxwell, who was initially going to join as the third goalie, has decided to continue his career in North America and will not be joining the Bears for the preseason in the coming days. Joining the Bears as the third goalie during the preseason will be young Croatian goalie Mate Tomljenovic, who has been a valuable character of Croatia's senior national representation for the past four years and spent last season in the lineups of HC Detva in Slovakia's secondary league. The twenty-year-old Zagreb native will be the Bears' third goalie in prep games leading up to the KHL championship.
"Since Maxwell decided to stay in the U.S., the club responded immediately and as was planned the team is heading into the preseason with three goalies: Dekanich, Brust, Tomljenovic. Tomljenovic will be joining the team in the preseason. This year he did an outstanding job at the World Championships Division I Group B and helped team Croatia win silver. This will be a great opportunity for him to discover what more he is capable of", said Medvescak's spokesperson Ranko Vucinic, adding:
''At the time being we can neither confirm nor deny whether Tomljenovic will stay on the team for the regular season. There is ample time for things and positions in the team come together and as always everything will be handled in a timely manner. I would not call Tomljenovic's time with the team a 'tryout' period because we are all very well aware of the player's athletic abilities, as is he familiar with our club.''
