Defenseman Ryan O'Connor, who joined the Bears at the start of 2014, played his debut game in the Medvescak jersey and in the KHL in Omsk.
''I was in the game briefly, but it was exciting. It's indescribable to play in a top league that's in the range of the NHL. I was nervous before the game, but the nerves went away during practice'', said the Canadian who celebrated his 22nd birthday last Sunday, and continued:
''I've fit into the team well. Every day I feel closer with my teammates and the coaching staff, and I'm getting adjusted to the game system.''
After the game in Omsk against Avangard, the Bears immediately headed off to Kazakhstan's capital, where they will be hosted in the Ice Palace Kazakhstan (4070 spectator capacity) at 2:00 PM Croatian time by Barys Astana - the team that's constantly rotating against Ak Bars for the top spot in the Eastern conference and has the league's best attack (scored 162 goals).
''We know that they're a really good offensive team. All of their lines are capable of scoring, and they have the most goals not just in the Conference, but in the whole league. We were just talking about all of that at the last practice and we prepared for them a little differently. We're going to have to work on our defence more and play smart. We can't make too many mistakes because this is about a team that penalizes the smallest mistake with a goal.''
