The Bears played their third preseason game. The game in the Tipsport Arena between Sparta and Medvescak ended after four minutes of overtime, the final score was 3:2 (0:0, 2:1, 0:1 - 1:0).
The first period, which went by without any goals, had a slower tempo, but then both teams stepped it up in the second period. The quicker tempo sprung Medvescak and Sparta's shooters into action, particularly in the first ten minutes of the second period. In the 25th minute Daniel Pribyl put Sparta in the lead, while just three minutes later the Bears made the most of Karel Pilar's penalty and tied it for 1:1 in a powerplay. Pascal Pelletier used assists from Darren Haydar and Mark Katic to score his first preseason goal in the blue jersey. After Pelletier reset the score, an opportunity opened up for the home team in the 33rd minute which Marek Hrbas turned into 2:1.
Just like in the game against Karlov Vary, the final period saw 21-year-old Mate Tomljenovic guarding Medvescak's net again. The Croatian national team member once again got to prove himself by not letting a single puck past him for 20 minutes of game play, while the rest of the Bear pack secured overtime in the 59th minute. Scoring for 2:2 was Mike Glumac. Sparta had more luck in overtime, using their 4-on-3 advantage in the 64th minute (Nathan Perkovich was out for two minutes) and scored the final 3:2.
During the game in the Tipsport Arena the Bears accrued 14 penalty minutes, and Sparta 20.
Medvescak will play their next two preseason games on the weekend in Germany at a tournament in Straubing. On Friday at 6PM the Bears will test their strength against Straubing, and then on Sunday against KAC or Augsburger.
