Today the league released the official schedule for 2016/17 KHL season. As it was announced, the season starts earlier than last year, with Metallurg Magnitogorsk and CSKA Moscow playing on Monday, 22 August.
Medvescak will have 60 matches in the regular season to find a way to enter the playoffs. Twice – once home and once away – the Bears will 26 teams, while with Slovan Bratislava and Severstal Cherepovets they will play four times each – twice home and twice away.
The Bears will open the season in Togliatti at Lada's arena on Tuesday, 23 August, and after a short stay in Kazan will come back to Zagreb for the home opener in Dom sportova on Monday, 29 August. Den's first guest in the new season will be HC Sochi.
The Bears will have their longest road trip early in the season, alreaday in September, from 6 till 25. The game on Saturday, 17 September will be the first away game in Bratislava of the new season, and on the following Friday, the reigning champions will host the Bears.
On the last day of September Slovan is coming to the Ice Hall as first of four teams, and is followed by the star stunned SKA.
The calendar year, right before Christmas, will be closed with three home games, against Traktor (19/12), Magnitogorsk (21/12) and Ufa on Friday, 23 December.
January starts and ends with the league's rookie and youngest club – Red Star Kunlun. On 3 January Red Star will be the first guest of the new year, and in the following two week we will see five more Eastern teams and Severstal Cherepovets on the ice in Zagreb. This will end the Bears' longest home game string.
Twice in the season the Bears will play back-to-back games. First time at the end of November and the second time on the first Thursday and Friday of 2017 (against Amur and Admiral).
The international breaks are scheduled for early November, mid-Decemeber and in February. In addition to that, the Bears will have a longer break through the holiday season.
An away (15/02) and home game (17/02) against Slovan will end the regular season.
