Severstal hold on to points

Severstal hold on to points
In the first of a two leg away series, Zagreb's Medvescak failed to acquire the coveted points. The Cherepovets Ice Palace remains unyielding to Bears' attack and Sergei Magarilov became the third goalie this season to shut them down and keep his net empty.
Two games, only a few days apart painted two completely different pictures:”I congratulate Severstal on the win. We weren’t synchronized in the first, which left a big mark on the ice. We played against Severstal at home recently, in that game we played excellent at times, which is the complete opposite of what we’ve shown here today.” commented head coach Gordie Dwyer.

The return to playing on a larger surface proved to be a challenge during the first, and a goal at the start of the third, Severstals third goal all together gave the hosts enough security to close the game off:”We adjusted to the larger ice as the game went on, especially in the second, but the third goal from the hosts proved crucial. They scored it early in the third and after that they brought the game to a close.”

But the Bears weren’t without their own chances, especially in the second, while the result was still very much in reach:”We had our chances, with the man advantage and on equal strength, but we didn’t make the most of them. We wanted these three points, but they deservingly stay in Cherepovets.”

Danny Taylor’s net was opened by captain Andrei Shefer with a bombshell shot from the blue line at the start of the game, but after that the scoring was taken over by 20 year old Pavel Buchnevich who notched a hattrick. A goal at the end of the second and two more in the third gave the killing blow to the Bears.

Mikko Kousa, visibly saddened by the loss shortly commented :”We know the game would be tough, probably harder than the one in Zagreb, but there’s no excuse for this. From wherever we start, this was a terrible game for us.”

The Bears have a chance to return to winning ways this Saturday in Moscow against CSKA. The game starts at 3:00 PM Zagreb time.
