Danny Taylor, Medvescak's first goaltender and forward Tomas Mertl have decided, at their own request to leave Medvescak and join Sparta Prague and HK Mountfield, respectively, in this seasons' playoff run. Trades were finalized directly before the trade deadline of the Czech league – Extraliga (01/31) with Sparta and Mountfiled taking over all of Medvescak's contractual obligations towards these two players till the end of the season.
''We are well aware that this is unfortunately not the ideal moment for this, but we are also aware playoff is very hard to reach at this point and we wanted to honor the demands of the players who extend their season by joining another club.
Unfortunately, sometimes these decisions aren’t solely sports decisions, but are financial ones, and hard as they may be for us and our fans, in this moment of a very difficult and uncertain playoff contention, they are very important for the financial stability of the club,'' Aaron Fox, Medvescak's sports director said while announcing the trades.
KHL MEDVESCAK Zagreb wants to thank Taylor and Mertl for all the effort they put forth and everything they have done for the Club and wish them the best of luck with their careers.
Taylor joined Medvescak last summer and during this season the played in 38 games putting up a 92.4% svs with a 2.28 GAA.
Mertl also joined the club this past summer and in 55 games he tallied 11 goals and 21 assists.
