The Bears are playing Prague's Lev in the conference quarterfinals. The opponent for the first round of the KHL playoffs was determined in the Slovnaft Arena after their game against Slovan, which ended in a 2:3 victory for Medvescak.
''We knew that every team in the playoffs would be tough so we we're worried about that, but about the distance for travel. We have a great series ahead of us against Lev. Lev are one of the league's best teams that we've played against throughout the season. They play incredibly, they're fighters, but they also play similar to us'', said Matt Murley.
This game didn't mean anything for Slovan in points, but they wanted to prove themselves in front of their fans and close the season with a win. But, the Bears changed their plan. Their lead in the 7th minute thank to Marko Dano didn't make their situation any easier when the Bears turned around the score in the second period. Mike Glumac tied it at 1:1 in the 27th minute, and then Kurtis Foster scored a powerplay goal in the 32nd minute for 1:2. Despite the home team tying the score in the 37th minute thanks to Milan Bartovic, Matt Murley secured three points for the Bears in the 41st minute.
''The game was hard. Slovan played really well. They didn't give up the game easily, and we had to work hard for these three points, and luckily some of the pucks made it into the net. Sometimes it's easy to play that final game when you don't feel pressure, but we felt it so it was harder'', said Murley.
